THE MISSION — Move for a Purpose
This isn’t just an event — it’s a mindset. A movement that proves physical activity is one of the most powerful tools to support mental well-being. Whether it’s a walk around the block or a mountain hike — moving your body strengthens your mind.
Bill Murphy is taking on a 100-mile ruck along the coast of Narragansett, RI on Memorial Day weekend to prove that pushing through physical challenges — big or small — builds resilience, reduces stress, and sharpens mental clarity.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. There’s no better time to break the stigma, build community, and move for a purpose.
“Honoring veterans and first responders meaningfully — through real support, real stories, real action.”
AWI exists to support veterans and first responders in meaningful, tangible ways — not with empty praise, but with real resources. Service dogs. Home upgrades. Business grants. Community.
AWI’s service dog program has changed hundreds of lives. A trained service dog gives a veteran more than companionship — it gives them back their independence, their calm, and their sense of mission.
Fund a Service Dog for a U.S. Veteran
Every dollar raised supports AWI’s mission to provide life-changing service dogs to veterans and first responders.
JOIN THE MOVEMENT
You Don’t Have to Ruck 100.
Just Do a Little More.
Bill’s doing 100 miles. But this is a movement — not just one man’s challenge. Could you walk 1 mile? Run 5? Get your team to do 10? Whatever it is, do a little more than you would have, and raise a little money while you’re at it. Every step, every dollar gets us closer to a service dog for a veteran who needs one.
STEP ONE – Create Your Team
Go to the GiveButter page and create a personal fundraising team. Set your own movement goal — miles, steps, whatever moves you.
STEP TWO – Move & Share
Walk, run, ruck, bike, paddle — whatever gets you moving. Video it. Post it. Tag #AWIMindOverMiles and we’ll reshare it.
STEP three – Raise Money
Ask friends and family to pledge per mile, or just donate a flat amount. 100% of funds go toward a service dog for a U.S. veteran.
WHY MOVEMENT MATTERS
More Than Fitness
Mental Resilience
Physical challenges build mental toughness. Pushing through discomfort proves we’re stronger than we think — and that confidence carries into every part of life.
Mood & Clarity
Movement boosts mood, reduces anxiety, and releases endorphins. A walk, a ruck, a run — the body and mind are connected. One strengthens the other.
Community Action
Gratitude isn’t enough. This event turns awareness into action — raising real funds for real veterans who need real support. Every step counts. Every dollar matters.
Follow the Journey

Every Step. Every Dollar. Every Veteran.
