Thrive: mIND OVER mILES Movement

What is the Mind Over Miles Movement?

Mind Over Miles is more than an event—it’s a mindset and a movement that encourages people to use physical activity as a tool to support mental well-being. Whether it’s a walk around the block, a swim, or a run along the beach, moving your body helps strengthen your mind.

Led by Bill Murphy, Mind Over Miles promotes the idea that pushing through physical challenges—big or small—can build resilience, reduce stress, and improve mental clarity. Bill is taking this philosophy to the next level by undertaking a 101-mile ruck and run along the beach. This incredible feat will showcase what Mind Over Miles is all about: proving that when we push ourselves physically, we also strengthen our mental capacity to overcome obstacles.

The movement inspires individuals to step outside their comfort zones, connect with others, and make space for mental wellness through movement—one step at a time.

And there’s no better time to embrace this mission than in May—Mental Health Awareness Month—a time dedicated to breaking the stigma and prioritizing mental well-being for all.

Why is physical movement crucial for Mental Health?

Movement is a powerful tool for mental well-being. Regular exercise reduces stress, boosts mood, and enhances overall well-being by releasing endorphins. Whether it’s running, swimming, or walking, staying active combats anxiety, depression, and mental fatigue.

Challenging physical activities, like the 101-Mile Movement, builds resilience and mental strength. Overcoming endurance obstacles proves we are capable of more than we believe. Pushing beyond comfort zones fosters confidence, accomplishment, and a strong mind-body connection.

Step outside your comfort zone—run an extra mile, lift a little heavier, or commit to daily movement. Every step forward is a step toward better mental health.

What organizations will the Thrive Foundation be supporting?

American Warrior Initiative

The American Warrior Initiative (AWI) is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting U.S. military veterans and their families. Through impactful programs, AWI provides service dogs, business grants, home renovations, and mortgage-free housing to wounded heroes. Their mission is to honor those who have served by helping them heal, rebuild, and thrive in civilian life.

These efforts not only provide essential resources but also foster a sense of purpose, dignity, and belonging for our nation’s heroes. AWI partners with organizations and communities nationwide to ensure veterans receive the care and recognition they deserve.

As part of this effort, the Thrive Foundation is raising funds to provide a service dog to a veteran—offering life-changing support, independence, and companionship.

Shine Initiative

The Shine Initiative is a nonprofit organization based in Worcester, Massachusetts, dedicated to building mental health awareness and reducing stigma, particularly among youth and young adults. Through partnerships with schools, businesses, and community organizations, Shine educates young people on mental health issues, provides local resources for professional treatment, and fosters open conversations to normalize discussions about mental health. Their mission is to empower individuals to “make time for their mind” and prioritize mental wellness every day.

The Thrive Foundation is committed to supporting this impactful cause by raising for the Shine Initiative. These funds will help young adults navigate mental health challenges, providing them with the tools and support they need to thrive.

Fairway Cares

Fairway Cares is the nonprofit arm of Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, delivering personalized care packages to those facing illness, loss, or trauma. Each package includes comforting items like blankets, journals, and handwritten notes—offering hope during life’s toughest moments.

One special initiative is the Sunshine Package—a thoughtfully selected box designed to brighten someone’s day and remind them they are seen, valued, and not alone. Know someone going through a hard time? A Sunshine Package can bring a little light to their journey.

As part of the Mind Over Miles Movement, a portion of proceeds will support these Sunshine Packages, helping us spread care and encouragement to even more people.

In addition, all other proceeds will be committed to supporting other mental health organizations that are making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families across our communities.

How can you become part of the Mind Over Miles Movement?

Supporters are invited to join a live stream on Twitch, hosted by TLDR, where they can engage with the event in real time. This interactive platform will provide updates on the progress of the challenge, share inspiring stories, and offer ways to contribute toward our fundraising goals. By tuning in, participants not only show their support but also become part of a community dedicated to pushing limits and making a tangible impact for mental health charities and veterans in need.

In person participation is another powerful way to support—whether by joining the movement itself or cheering on participants. For those who can make it, we encourage you to come down to Narragansett, RI Beach on the day of the movement to show your support in person, cheer on the participants, and be part of an unforgettable experience. Corporate sponsorships and partnerships with local businesses can also play a key role in amplifying the impact of the challenge, making it possible to reach even more lives. Every effort, no matter how small, contributes to empowering individuals, breaking barriers, and fostering a community that prioritizes mental health and well-being.
